The City Of Love

COEN BROTHERS: PARIS JE T'AIME, TUILERIES
This film is about a tourist in a metro in Paris. His eye contact with a couple across the railtrack provokes them and the girlfriend comes over to him and kisses him. The boyfriend subsequently beats the tourist and the couple leave together. It is quite amusing because the tourist is reading about how Paris is the city of lovers at the time.

I love the style of the story, much like Amelie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, its hues of greens and yellows and composition of the shots. I particularly love the way in which the reactions tell the story rather than the speech or action shots. We are confused when the main character is confused. The way they address the confusion between cultures is perfectly suited for Chalayan who addresses this theme of confusion and displacement in several of his collections.
