s/s 2009

INERTIA

For this, the idea is that speed in our lives leads to a sort of inevitable crash. So Chalayan took the idea and literally used prints of whole cars and car crashes to symbolise this. The organic shapes of the dresses represent slow life being contradicted by the prints of crashes. I don't like the idea of using such a literal concept for our film.

EARTHBOUND

This was inspired by the urban streets in London, where Chalayan lives and works. The clothes represent the streets through prints of fences and manhole covers and asphalt textures. I love this look, it reminds me of one of my favourite designers, Alexander Wang. This season I think Chalayan has concentrated on the design and look of the garments rather than an exciting theme.
